RIDE SCHEDULE 2015

NOTICE:  UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, ALL FIRST IOWA DIVISION RIDES REQUIRE NARCOA INSURANCE AND ALL NARCOA RULES WILL APPLY.


APRIL 25, 2015  -  BOONE & SCENIC VALLEY RAILROAD  -  BOONE, IOWA

We are starting out the 2015 ride season on the B&SVRR.  We hope to have three trips during the day and possibly a night run.  Enjoy the 156' high bridge and the Des Moines River bridge by the Y-Camp.  Round trip mileage is about 20 miles round trip for each run.  Set on at the depot will start at 7:00am with a 9:15am departure following a safety meeting in the depot at 9:00am for the first run.  Cost of the ride is $ 20. May 8-10, 2015  -  APPANOOSE COUNTY RAILROAD  -  CENTERVILLE, IOWA

We are hosting a 3-day short ride on the APNC .   We will stop short of crossing the IC&E diamond south of Moravia.  Round trip mileage is about 40 miles round trip for each run.  Set on Friday evening will be at 6:00pm with a safety meeting at 6:45pm and departure at 7:00pm.  Set on will be at the APNC offices near the water tower in the southeast part of Centerville.  Our Saturday set on will start at 6:30am with an 8:45am safety meeting and a 9:00am departure for the first run.  We will make as many trips as possible during the day and including a night run.  Sunday morning we will meet at 8:00am,  have a safety meeting at 8:45am,  and depart at 9:00am.  Cost of the ride is  $ 25.   Please make out checks payable to FID.  Frosty Farrell is the EC for this excursion.  Motels in Centerville are the Super 8 (800-800-8000) and the Motel 60 (800-437-7271).  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail motorcarl@mchsi.com .

MAY 23 - 25, 2015  -  MINNESOTA NORTHERN / DAKOTA NORTHERN RAILROADS

The First Iowa Division will host a 3-day Memorial Day weekend excursion on the Minnesota Northern and Dakota Northern Railroads.  Approximate mileage is 336.  The excursion fee for all three days is $ 150 which does not include meals or motels.  Don Schoeb is the EC for this excursion.  Hirails are welcome on all three excursions.

Day 1 - Minnesota Northern Railroad - St. Hilaire, MN to Roseau, MN and return.  Approximate mileage will be 140 miles.  Set on will be at St. Hilaire, MN from 6:00am - 7:45am on the north crossing by the elevator.  Safety meeting will take place at 7:45am with a departure of 8:00am sharp.  Anyone arriving after 7:45am will not be allowed to participate in this event.

Day 2  -  Dakota Northern Railroad  -  Grafton, ND to Walhalla, ND and return.  Approximate mileage will be 96 miles.  Set on will be at the ADM elevator parking lot from 7:00am - 8:00am with a 9:00am departure.  Anyone arriving after 8:45am will not be allowed to participate in this event.

Day 3  -  Minnesota Northern Railroad   -  Crookston, MN to Shelly, MN and return.  plus a second ride from Crookston, MN to Beltrami, MN and return.  Approximate mileage for these two rides will be 100 miles.  Set on will be at the MNN shop at Crookston, MN from 6:30 - 7:45am.  Safety meeting will be at 7:45am with an 8:00am departure.  Anyoine arriving after 7:45am will not be allowed to participate in this ride.

JUNE 13 - 14, 2015  -  DMV&W RAILROAD  -  BRITTON,  SOUTH DAKOTA

The First Iowa Division will host a 2-day ride on the DMV&W Railroad at Britton. SD.   Saturday we will set on north of the elevator in downtown Britton beginning at 6:30am.  The safety meeting will be at 8:00am with an 8:15am departure.  We will travel to the track limits east of Aberdeen with a stop both ways at Claremont.  We'll return to Britton by mid-afternoon.  There will be an optional evening run to Geneseo, ND with a stop at Rutland for an on your own supper at the Lariat Lounge and returning to Britton approximately 10pm. Our Sunday departure will be at 9:00am for Geneseo, ND with a stop at the Rutland Mercantile for on your own coffee and homemade sweet rolls.  We will return to Britton at approximately 1:00pm for set off.  Approximate mileage for this excursion is 270 miles.  Hyrails are permitted.  Motels in Britton are the Northern Lights Inn (605-448-2438) FULL!,  Sunset Motel (800-201-2205 or 605-448-2205),  or Tyler's Motel (605-448-5723) http://tylerhospitalities.com.  The price of this trip is $ 80.  Price includes ride fees for the 2-day DMV&W ride but does not cover meals and motels.  Prepayment is required but last minute attendees are welcome.  Dave Voeltz is the EC for this event.

JULY 31 - AUG. 2, 2015  -  VFW RIDE APPANOOSE COUNTY RAILROAD  -  CENTERVILLE, IA

The First Iowa Division has again been asked to provided rides to the public for a fund raiser that the VFW hosts for restoring the Centerville depot.  This will be conducted the same as last year and operate under their insurance policy on Saturday Aug. 1st.  Set on will begin at 6:30am just south of the water tower in the southeast part of town. 

I would like to thank everyone who came out and volunteered their cars and time last year and I hope you can attend this year as we had many riders.  As an added bonus for giving rides,  the First Iowa Division will have an evening ride Friday, July 31st with a set on at 6:30pm and a safety meeting and departure at 7:00pm riding up to MP 21 and back.  This will be a free ride for anyone who wishes to donate their time and car for the VFW ride.

Please note that the VFW Aug. 1st ride is not a NARCOA ride nor is it sanctioned by the First Iowa Division.  The Friday night and Sunday morning rides will be covered by the NARCOA insurance but the VFW is covering the insurance on Saturday.

Oct. 2-4, 2015  -  APPANOOSE COUNTY RAILROAD  -  CENTERVILLE, IOWA

We are hosting a 3-day full ride on the APNC .   We will make the entire trip from Centerville to Albia and return on Saturday.  Round trip mileage is about 65 miles.  We will also have a Friday evening run to MP21 and back for those coming in early.  Set on will be at 6:00pm with a safety meeting at 6:45pm and departure at 7:00pm.  Set on location will be at the APNC offices near the water tower in the southeast part of Centerville.  Our Saturday morning set on will start at 6:30am with an 7:45am safety meeting and an 8:00am departure.   We will stop at the Moravia depot for lunch prepared by the fine folks at the museum.  The ride fee does not include this lunch.   Sunday morning we will meet at 8:00am,  have a safety meeting at 8:45am,  and depart at 9:00am.  Cost of the ride is  $ 35.   Please make out checks payable to FID.  Frosty Farrell is the EC for this excursion.  Motels in Centerville are the Super 8 (800-800-8000) and the Motel 60 (800-437-7271).  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail motorcarl@mchsi.com .

Oct. 17, 2015  -  Columbia Terminal (COLT) RAILROAD  -  COLUMBIA, MISSOURI

Come join us on this ride which runs northeast from Columbia to Centralia on an ex-Wabash track.  We will set on beginning at 6:30am and have a scheduled 8:00am departure after a 7:45am safety meeting for the first run.  We will run this line two times during the day.  Each run is approximately 37 miles round trip so our grand total for the day will be about 74 miles.  There's a Lee's Chicken across the street for our lunch break between runs.  Cost of the ride is  $ 45 .   The set on location for the ride will be at the COLT facilities at 6501 Brown Station Road.  Take Hwy 63 north to Rt. B and turn right (NE).  After crossing the railroad tracks on Rt. Oct. 18, 2015  -  FT. LEONARD WOOD ARMY BASE) RAILROAD  -  FT. LEONARD WOOD, MISSOURI

Join us for an excursion on this beautiful railroad through Missouri Ozarks northeast of the Ft. Leonard Wood base to the BNSF connection at Bundy Junction.  Set on will be at 8:30am with a safety meeting at 9:45am and a 10:00am departure for the first trip.  We will run this line twice during the day for a grand total of 80 miles.  Please bring lunch or snacks along as there won't be a stop for lunch between runs.  Cost of the ride is  $ 3 5 .   Due to security issues,  everyone will need a picture ID,  vehicle registration and proof of insurance,  and be prepared for a possible vehicle inspection.  There has also been another requirement added this year.  Everyone going on this run will need to fill out a form with full name,  address,  driver's license number, etc. prior to the excursion.  Motels in the St. Robert / Waynesville area are the Red Roof Inn (573-336-2510) and the Budget Inn (573-336-5212).  EC for this run is Frosty Farrell.  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail  motorcarl@mchsi.com for further information and to get a copy of the security form.
