RIDE SCHEDULE 2010

This is a tentative schedule and more rides may be added as they become available.

May 16, 2010  -  Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad  -  Boone, Iowa   We are starting out the 2010 ride season on the B&SV.  We hope to have four trips during the day and possibly a night run.  Notice that this is a Sunday ride because there is train traffic on Saturday!  Enjoy the 156' high bridge and the Des Moines River bridge by the Y-Camp.  The line has been repaired and is now open the full distance to Wolf.  Mileage is about 18 miles round trip.  Set on at the depot will start at 7:00am with a 9:00am departure for the first trip.  Cost of the ride is $20Current membership in the Iowa Railroad Historical Society ($25) is a railroad requirement also.  Please make out checks for the ride payable to FID and membership checks to Iowa Railroad Historical Society.  Motels in Boone are the Super 8 (800-800-8000) and the Amerihost (515-432-8168).  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail motorcarl@mchsi.com for more information.

May 29 & 30, 2010  -  Nebraska Northeastern Railroad  -  Osmond, Nebraska   We are hosting a 2-day ride on the Nebraska Northeastern Railroad with our base of operations at Osmond, NE.  We will travel west to O'Neill on Saturday and then return to Page for lunch before returning to Osmond for the night.  Available lunch in Page will be a choice of roast bef or chicken fried breast, potatoes  & gravy, vegetable, roll w/ butter for $7.  Contact Carl with your preference so we can get a good count for the cafe on how much food to prepare.  Day 2 will take us from Osmond to Jackson and back.  We will be stopping in both directions at Laurel for restroom breaks and a lunch break at the trackside convenience store on the return trip.  This line is also used by the BNSF to run shuttle grain trains so we might see some train action.  Set on in Osmond will be at 6:30am with an 8:00am departure both days.  Mileage for the two days is approximately 230 miles.  Cost of the ride is $60 for both days.   There is a new motel in Osmond, the Hill Street Inn (402-748-3133)(FULL)  and the Cedar Motel (402-337-0500) in Randolph about 14 miles east.  The Hill Street Inn only has 9 regular rooms and 1 handicapped-accessible room so we have secured the entire motel for FID.  Call early as this will fill up fast and mention First Iowa Division when making your reservation to make sure you can get in.  The Cedar Motel in Randolph only has about 14 rooms so make reservations early there as well.  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail motorcarl@mchsi.com for more information.

June 12, 2010  -  Iowa River Railroad  -  Eldora, Iowa  -  The First Iowa Division will host a ride on this ex-M&StL line which runs from Marshalltown to Steamboat Rock, Iowa and north past the ethanol plant towards Ackley.  Mileage could be about 70 miles round trip depending on how far we can ride and whether track repairs have been completed following the flood damage of last summer.  We plan on possibly riding the line twice if time permits.  Cost of this ride is $45 per car.  The set on time will be at 7:00am with an 8:00am departure.  The set on location is about 2 blocks north of the Hwy 175 crossing.  Motels in Eldora are the Village Motel and the Eldora Motel .  Both of these motels are small and now have the same owner but there is a limited number of rooms at each so make your reservations early.  The motel number is (641-858-3312).  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail motorcarl@mchsi.com for more information.    Special notice for those arriving Friday evening:  Bob and Deb Smith have graciously offered to host a pork feed Friday evening at 7pm for all who can come.  Please contact them at 641-858-2475 or 319-230-4575 if you can make it.  Their address is 2114 15th Ave.  They would love to have you join the fun!

July 17 & 18, 2010  -  Dakota Northern Railroad  -  Grafton, North Dakota   The Dakota Section of the First Iowa Division is pleased to announce multiple trips on the 48 mile segment of the Dakota Northern RR from Grafton to Walhalla, ND.  We will ride both days head quartered out of Grafton. Saturday will have a day and evening run to the end of the line at Walhalla with stops on the way out and back at Crystal in the morning and Lunch and Supper at Walhalla.  Be sure your lights are in excellent working condition.  Sunday will have an abbreviated run to Cavalier and back so everyone can be on the road home by noon.  This is a former GN/BNSF line

Set on at the East Park St crossing just south of the Park River Bridge off of US Highway 81 in northern Grafton at 6:45am. The safety meeting is scheduled for 8:15 am with departure at 8:30 am

Cost of this 2 day excursion will be $75 per car and will include two Lunch tickets for a grilled hamburger or Hot Dog, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, cookie and beverages lunch at Walhalla.  Additional tickets can be purchased during registration for $7.50.  Supper on your own at Walhalla Saturday evening (Bring your own or regular menu at the Hwy 32 Diner).

Aug. 22, 2010  -  Colt Railway  -  Columbia, Missouri    Come join us on this ride which runs northeast from Columbia to Centralia on an ex-Wabash track.  We will set on beginning at 6:30am and have a scheduled 8:00am departure for the first run.  See below for a set on location change!  We will run this line two times during the day.  Each run is approximately 44 miles round trip so we will have a total for the day of about 88 miles.  There is a Lee's Chicken  across the street from the tracks for our lunch break.  Cost of this ride is $45 per car.  There are several motels in Columbia with many at the junction of I-70 and Hwy 63.  There is a Super 8 (800-800-8000 or 573-474-8488), Ramada Inn (537-449-0051), and Econo Lodge (573-442-1191) just to name a few.  For other motels, feel free to contact me at 515-967-5181 or e-mail   motorcarl@mchsi.com The set on location for the COLT ride is at the Boone Co. Lumber property in downtown Columbia.  Take the Rangeline Rd. exit from I-70 and drive south until the T intersection with Rogers St. Turn left and the set on is about a half block on your left in the Boone Co. Lumber facility.

Sept. 4-6, 2010   Dakota Missouri Valley & Western (North Dakota & South Dakota)  Saturday - Monday  3 Day Event  -  We will ride Saturday and Sunday out of Wishek, ND,  The first day will take us North and West to McKenzie, ND and back where we will leave the cars on the track overnight.  The second day will take us east to Kulm, ND and return to Wishek where we will then set off and transport our cars to Britton, SD for a late afternoon set on and evening run to Geneseo Jct and back to Britton where we will leave our cars on track overnight.  Monday we will run to near Aberdeen, SD before returning to Britton for setoff and a early afternoon departure for home.  Set on begins at 6:30 am on Centennial St with an 8 am departure on Saturday and Sunday in Wishek.  Set on begins at 4:00 pm Sunday in Britton on 7th St with a 5:30 pm departure.  Departure is 8 am on Monday.  Approximate run trip mileage for the 3 days is 360 miles.  The price of the trip is $90.   Price includes ride fees for all 3 days but does not include lunch.  This event is sponsored by First Iowa Division. CANCELLED DUE TO BRIDGE REPLACEMENT   Sept. 4, 2010  -  Ft. Leonard Wood Army Base  -  Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri    Set on will be at 8:30am with a 10:00am departure.  As you enter the fort from I-44, be in the left lane and pull into the inspection area by the security check point.   Please bring lunch or snacks along as there won't be a stop for lunch between runs.  We will make two trips on this 20-mile scenic line through the Ozarks  to the connection with the BNSF at Bundy Junction.  Due to security issues,  everyone will need a picture ID, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and be prepared for a vehicle inspection.  Cost of this ride is $35.  Motels are the Red Roof Inn (573-336-2510) and the Budget Inn (573-336-5212), all in the St. Robert - Waynesville area.  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail motorcarl@mchsi.com for more information. 

Sept. 25, 2010 -  Appanoose County Railroad  -  Centerville, Iowa    Set on will be at 6:30am just south of the water tower in the southeast part of town with an 8:00am departure.  We will travel 35 miles north to Albia on a combination of welded and jointed track.  This line also crosses the IC&E Kansas City - Quad Cities mainline and we might see a train there.  Lunch plans haven't been made at this time so watch here for later updates. Oct. 23, 2010  -  St. Croix Railroad  -  North Branch, Minnesota  -  Our season finale will be on the St. Croix railroad between North Branch and Hinkley, Minnesota.  We will make one round trip to Hinkley and return to North Branch for lunch.  We will make second round trip after our lunch break.  Set on will begin at 7:00am one block north of the Hwy 95 crossing by the elevator in downtown North Branch.  Departure will be at 8:30am.  Mileage for each round trip is about 60 miles.  Cost of this ride is $40.  Motels in North Branch are the Budget Host (651-277-8000) and the Americinn (651-674-8627).  Contact Carl Schneider at 515-967-5181 or e-mail motorcarl@mchsi.com for more information.
