NOTICE: UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, ALL FIRST IOWA DIVISION RIDES REQUIRE NARCOA INSURANCE AND ALL NARCOA RULES WILL APPLY.

This is a tentative schedule and full excursion information will be posted as we get details.

APRIL 24, 2021 - BOONE & SCENIC VALLEY RAILROAD - BOONE, IOWA

We are starting out the 2021 ride season on the B&SVRR. We hope to have three trips during the day and possibly a night run. Enjoy the 156' high bridge and the Des Moines River bridge by the Y-Camp. Round trip mileage is about 20 miles round trip for each run. Set on at the depot will start at 7:00am with a 9:00am departure following a safety meeting in the depot at 8:45am for the first run.

Cost of this excursion is $30. Please make checks out to: First Iowa Division. Current membership in the Iowa Railroad Historical Society ($25) is a railroad requirement. Please make out check for the IRHS to: Iowa Railroad Historical Society. Carl Schneider is the EC for this excursion. Motels in Boone are the Super 8 (800-800-8000) and the Amerihost (515-432-8168).

May 28 & 29, 2021 - RED RIVER VALLEY & WESTERN RAILROAD - LAMOURE, NORTH DAKOTA

First Iowa Division will host an excursion from LaMoure, ND to Edgeley ND and back on Friday evening (6:30 Departure) for early arrivals, and Saturday from LaMoure to Leonard, ND and back. Set on is scheduled to start at 4 pm Friday and at 6:30am on Saturday. We will depart LaMoure at 8:15 am with a morning break at Lisbon, ND and a possible noon pay for your own lunch at Leonard, ND depending on COVID protocols. We will then turn our cars and return to LaMoure with an afternoon break at Lisbon on the way back. Approximate round trip mileage for this excursion is 160 - 200 miles. Hyrails permitted with the following restrictions: Set on at the front immediately behind the RR escort.

May 30 & 31, 2021 - DMV&W RAILROAD - BRITTON, SOUTH DAKOTA

The First Iowa Division will host a 2-day ride on the DMV&W Railroad at Britton, SD. We hope to be able to set on Saturday evening from 7 pm to dark. Check trackside or call Excursion Coordinator Dave Voeltz at 605-280-5551 for details. Sunday, we will do the usual Britton to Aberdeen Jct and back in the morning and Britton to Geneseo and back in the evening.On Monday, we will repeat the Britton to Geneseo segment and back with a coffee break at Rutland before setting off. First Iowa Division is hosting a 2-day motor car excursion over the Ellis & Eastern Railroad (ex C&NW) at Luverne, MN on June 26 & 27, 2021. Set on begins Friday evening, June 25 on Freeman Ave near the depot at 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm and continues at 6:30 am on Saturday, June 26, 2021. We will depart at the conclusion of the safety meeting that starts at 8:30 am. We will travel from Luverne to Agate Jct and back in the morning with a break at Adrian. After a lunch break at Luverne, we will travel to Manly MN and back in the afternoon and also have an evening run. There will also be a morning round trip from Luverne to Agate Jct. on Sunday, June 27. All insured NARCOA members are welcome to participate. Total mileage is 196 miles.

July 10, 2021 - MINNESOTA PRAIRIE LINES - REDWOOD FALLS, MINNESOTA

This is a one day excursion over the Minnesota Prairie Line in central Minnesota. Saturday set on begins at 6:30am. Safety meeting starts at 8:00 am with a scheduled departure at 8:15am for Norwood Young America and back with a break at Fairfax and lunch at Green Isle. Approximate round trip mileage for this excursion is 100 miles. Hyrails permitted at the front behind the escort. The event is sponsored by First Iowa Division. NARCOA insurance and rules apply. This is a one day excursion over the Twin Cities & Western’s Line in central Minnesota. Sunday set on begins at 6:30am. Safety meeting starts at 8:30 with a scheduled departure at 8:45am. We will set on at Sacred Heart, MN and travel to Appleton and back with a break coming and going at Montevideo. Approximate round trip mileage for this excursion is 94 miles. AUG. 7, 2021 - IOWA SOUTHERN RAILROAD VFW RIDE - CENTERVILLE, IOWA

CANCELLED!!! A non-NARCOA event will be held to give rides to the public with proceeds going to the local Historic Preservation Group which purchased the depot from the VFW. Several physical improvements have been made to the depot and proceeds will be used to make further improvements and meet day to day expenses. Set on will begin at the crossing by the Curwood plant on east Oneil St.at 7am. Oneil Street is south of the depot on Hwy. 5. Passenger loading will be by the Centerville depot next to Hwy 5. The first passenger trip will depart at 9am and the last trip will be at 3pm. Three passenger trips will be made. Since there will be turning several times during the day, turntables will be a great benefit. Round trip mileage is approximately 18 miles and several round trips will be made during the day. After the last 3pm run, another trip will be made out to MP21 possibly giving rides to some of the museum people. NARCOA insurance is not required as insurance will be provided by the Historic Preservation Group. First Iowa Division is hosting a 2-day motor car excursion over the Ringneck & Western Railway (ex Milwaukee Road Railroad) at Oacoma, SD beginning with planned set-on Friday afternoon/evening, Aug. 20, 2021. Set on continues at 6:30 am Saturday and we will depart at the conclusion of the safety meeting that starts at 8:30 am. We will travel from Oacoma to appx. 1 mile west of Mitchell and back with a break at White Lake outbound and inbound and an on your own lunch at a trackside convenience store at Mt Vernon. Gas is also available there. Sunday we will depart at the conclusion of the safety meeting that starts at 8:30 am and travel to Presho and back with a break at Kennebec both outbound and inbound. Upon returning to Oacoma in the early afternoon, participants can either set off or take a quick trip across the Missouri River Bridge and back.before setting off. Approximate round trip mileage for this excursion is 210 miles.

Sept. 17-18, 2021 - BLACK HILLS CENTRAL RAILROAD - HILL CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA

Friday: Set on begins immediately after departure of the afternoon train. We will depart immediately after the return of the train around 3:30 for a round trip to Keystone. We will have a second set on and round trip that evening.

Saturday: We will have four round trips and will be following the steam train during the third and fourth trips so we will have a tight schedule. We will have a 'bring your own lunch' Saturday noon at the Oblivion siding. Also hoping to have extended time at Keystone on our third trip of the day on Saturday. Some have expressed an interest in riding a couple times and then sitting out the rest of the day. The railroad said they'll have a track you can store your car out of the way while you're gone so we should be able to accommodate those requests. This ride is limited to 25 cars. No Hirails.

The price of the trip is $80. Price includes Ride fees only. Payment does not include Meals and motels.

Oct. 16, 2021 - FT. LEONARD WOOD ARMY BASE - ST. ROBERT, MO.

CANCELLED FOR TRACK WORK. First Iowa Division will host a one day excursion on the Fort Leonard Wood Army Base in St. Robert, Missouri. Come enjoy a day on the rails as we ride in the Ozark Mountains over numerous bridges, up and down grades, through cuts and across fills. We will seton near the south end of the line and make two round trips to the wye at Bundy Junction, for a total of 80 miles.

Hi-rails and mentoring allowed only with prior approval from the EC, Stuart Remmers.

The price of the trip is $50. Price includes Ride fees only. Payment does not include Meals and motels. NARCOA insurance and rules apply.

Oct. 16, 2021 - COLUMBIA TERMINAL (COLT) RAILROAD - COLUMBIA, MO.

First Iowa Division will host a one day ride on the Columbia Terminal Railroad in Columbia, Missouri. Come ride through rolling hill with autumn colored trees on the outskirts of Columbia. We will ride the line 3 to 4 times between the seton and Centralia, MO for a total mileage of 90. The railroad is currently storing cars on the south end of track. Lunch will be within walking distance of the railroad at a location yet to be determined, depending on the stored cars.

Hi-rails are not allowed. Mentoring allowed only with prior approval from the EC, Stuart Remmers.

The price of the trip is $50. Price includes Ride fees only. Payment does not include meals and motels. NARCOA insurance and rules apply.
